Hello everyone, Welcome to the January 2009 Breath and Breathing Report. So much life has filled the time since my last report! The Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays came and went. But the flow of love and peace and joy is continuous; and it seems to grow as we do! The Big News: “What If? The Movie” is here! I am very pleased to announce the release of “What if? The Movie.” It is a pleasure and a privilege to play a small part in this exciting documentary about human potential and conscious evolution. Some very unique people with extraordinary abilities are featured in the film. Baja Bio Sana Update: I arrived to the Baja on November 4 (election day). And I haven’t watched or read any world or national news in more than two months. What freedom there is in disconnecting from an unconscious world! What joy there is in connecting to the living elements of earth, air, water, fire. What peace there is in surrendering to the natural rhythms of life. And what ecstasy it is to be here swimming in the ocean, rivers and streams, soaking in the hot springs, and hiking in the hills, and playing in the gardens! Life is flowing and lots of energy is moving here. Our two colonies of bees are making honey for us. We completed the stone work on the palapa, built a deck for yoga, dance, meditation, etc., and we began digging the well. The papayas, bananas, and citrus that we planted in the spring are all doing great. We created large new gardens: more than twenty times the size of last year! We planted 1200 strawberry plants, a variety of melons, as well as three dozen types of vegetables and herbs. We also planted a peach tree, six neem trees, more fig trees, coconut palms, bamboo and several rose apple trees. Two dozen cherry pits that were thrown onto the ground near the bananas have sprouted, and now we have lots of young cherry trees! Thank you to Talvi from Estonia for that. The avocado and lemon trees are dripping with fruit, and the guava trees are almost ready to produce. The agave, aloe, and nopal cactus are coming up strong, and several of the mango trees are already flowering. So many beautiful people have been coming and going: healers, pilgrims, nature lovers, tourists… Students and teachers are flowing through and staying for various lengths of time. Maya Laura herbalist, massage therapist, breathworker, dancer and wild woman and community builder is with us. Our worker Trino helped to clear a great little camping spot near the aqueduct for her. He calls it “Casa de Maya.” Daniel Hegerich nutritionist, live food expert, chi kung practitioner and bodyworker is also here, taking his breathwork practice to the next level. You can visit his website at: http://www.absolutehealthandhealing.com) Lesia nature spirit, yoga practitioner, breathworker, and loving angel from the Crimea, Ukraine is here with us. Lovely Linda from Santa Barbara visited us for a week. We and the gardens are still glowing brighter because of her! And one of our founders Andrew Jones from the Permaculture Institute in Australia was also here. Finally, two very bright and beautiful people, Myrica and Bamboo, have declared their intention to become co-founders of Baja Bio Sana. They plan to live here for six months of the year and offer a pancha karma health program—an ancient method for detoxifying and rejuvenation. It is fun to see their van parked nearby: the license plate reads “Love is” You can find more information about them and their work at: www.ayurvedbliss.org. If you feel drawn to become a founding member of Baja Bio Sana, please contact me. We are now a group of 9, and we plan to complete the circle with 13. This Breath Energy Training explores a number of ancient and modern breathing schools, styles, approaches, techniques, exercises and methods, including: Spiritual Breathing, Rebirthing, Vivation, Holotropic Breathwork, Transformational Breathing, Ecstasy Breathing, Prana/Kriya/Kundalini Yoga (The Hindu Science of Breath), Chi Kung/Qigong (Chinese Medical Breathing Exercises), De-reflexive Breathing, Zen and the Art of Breathing, and more. The breath is our primary source of life force energy. It is a fundamental key to healing and growth. The breath has been called the rainbow bridge. Breathworkers are committed to uplifting themselves and others: we use the breath to discover, explore and develop our human and divine potential, and to manifest heaven on earth. “Alive Alone Together: The Art of Spiritual Breathing” This is the theme of this year’s Breathwork events. We start by honoring life, its source, our connection to it and to each other. We move forward by deepening our connection to life, uplifting ourselves and others, fully and freely expressing ourselves as unique individuals and being part of a harmonious community. Everyone is a student. Everyone is a teacher. Expect miracles. The training is ongoing and loosely structured. It is customized for each participant. If you plan to do any breathwork with me in the coming year, it may be a good idea to register in advance. This is a One Year Apprenticeship Program that can be accelerated to six months or extended to two years. Basic Tuition is $2500 USD. Once you are enrolled, you can attend any of my seminars, workshops, or training sessions, anywhere in the world at no cost. Please follow the seminar/schedule/payment links on the website. The Kina Freedom Creative Arts Retreat Kina’s transformational programs have begun on the land next door to us. I highly recommend his training. The Practice of Breathwork I hope you are all experiencing the simple and profound benefits of “Breath Awareness” and “Conscious Breathing.” I hope you all realize that anyone can use the breath as a tool for health, growth and change in spirit, mind and body. I hope you know that you don’t need a lot of training to awaken creative and healing energies within you and others. There is no need to depend on external authorities or so-called experts when it comes to love and life. And yet, you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by drawing upon the knowledge, skill and experience of others. I continue to remind people that it is up to each of us to find or create our own path. There are countless techniques and exercises, forms and styles, methods and schools of breath. But in every case, certain universal aspects are at work. Many years ago, I identified the key elements of breathwork, and called it “The Formula for Transformation.” The formula has three ingredients: Awareness, Relaxation, and Breath Control. These days, I described the work as involving the “Three Convergences:” bringing together Consciousness and Breathing, Consciousness and Relaxation, and Breathing and Relaxation. 99% of your breathing happens while you are focusing on something else. And so the idea is to be more conscious of your breathing—for a designated time each day, to become as conscious as possible of each breath. This is the purest and most natural form of meditation. And the more conscious you become of your breathing, the more conscious you will be of everything else: your body, mind, emotions, habits, patterns, tendencies, movements, postures, talents, qualities, fears, tensions, blocks, blind spots, others, the beauty around you, etc. Bringing together Consciousness and Relaxation is vital. Unconscious tensions lead to all sorts of dis-ease and illness. To be completely awake or alert, and at the same time completely relaxed and at ease, is to be in the most powerful and graceful state of resourcefulness and creativity. The final convergence is to bring together conscious breathing and conscious relaxation: and this is magic! It results in true inspiration, and it opens us to a uniquely powerful and gentle way of moving one’s life forward. For some people physical health is the priority, for others it is emotional or psychological well-being. For some it is professional development, and for others the priority is in the direction of spiritual development. Whatever your goal in life is, the Spirit of Breath is ready, willing and able to guide and support, strengthen and inspire you! I invite you to consciously breathe energy and aliveness, peace and power, health and happiness, comfort and pleasure, truth and wisdom, love and light! For some help on your path, come to the Baja, or meet me somewhere else in the world.
